Welcome to the Muscular System Manual Companion Web Application!

The initial hurdle for the new kinesiology student is to learn each muscle one at a time; this web application will certainly help you do that. Simply select what muscle you would like to learn about and you will see it appear on the skeleton. Notice its attachment sites. If you want to see the text of its attachments and actions, click on its pop-up box button. You can repeat this with each muscle that you want to learn.

Once each muscle has been learned independently, the critically important task of putting them back together can begin. This is where this web application will prove itself to be invaluable. By selecting and placing combinations of muscles on the skeleton, you can see their relationships to each other. Do certain muscles cross the same joint? Do they share attachment sites? Are they near each other? Do they overlap? If so, which muscle is superficial or deep to the other? Feel free to click around and play with your choices. Be creative, have fun, and learn!
